What is a Data Sharing Tool?

A data sharing tool enables businesses to share secure, live data with their network. This helps teams solve important business challenges like eliminating silos and accelerating project completion. It also empowers collaboration by ensuring data transparency and unlocks new insights.

As enterprise IT applications increase in complexity, the need for reliable solutions to real-time data sharing is now a necessity for achieving business outcomes. From the behavior of visitors on websites to the signals coming from IoT devices in your workplace or power plant, the amount of data is increasing exponentially and generating an equally huge number of data integrations.

Many of these integrations have been motivated by the desire to improve efficiency, analytics, and revenue streams. The biggest challenge is to move these massive amounts of data at scale, from source to destination without losing its value. The traditional methods like SFTP and pre-signed URLs for object stores and data transfer through ETL processes don’t scale to the volume of data required and are only applicable to a single vendor (e.g. Oracle, AWS Redshift or Snowflake).

There are many solutions that can assist in addressing the challenges of sharing real-time data. A specific class of platforms, that understand the data they contain and act as trusted intermediaries between different applications can ease some of these problems. This shifts the responsibility of managing data flows onto the platform provider. It also helps speed up and simplify data integraiton by eliminating the complicated retry-and retransmission capabilities that are part of many traditional tools.
